Good morning, and happy Friday!
When I was the ‘junior kid’working at my first real advertising sales position (ok, many years ago!) I thought the old-timers in the office were jaded, cynical and fossilized in their thinking about customers and sales opportunities. With a frown or a smirk, they would glance over the pitiful account list I had been given and dismiss them, and me, before I even got out the door! “Oh, he won’t go for it! He doesn’t advertise!”
Thankfully, I was new enough, sassy enough and enthusiastic enough that I didn’t listen. My response was usually something like “I believe that when you like what you do and are proud of what you’ve created, then you want to climb up on the rooftop every morning and tell the world. So maybe they just don’t want to advertise with you!”
I only stayed at that job for about a year, but we did some great work. My sales manager would often use my successes as an example to the others; highest number of cold calls, highest number of new accounts, highest closing ratio with new clients.
This blog post wasn’t just meant to brag about past achievements, but I always remember that line about climbing up on the rooftop and hollering at the world about your business, your offerings, your successes. What about you? Do you climb up on the rooftop (Twitter, blog, Facebook) every morning to share how great you’re doing? There’s always something to celebrate! Go ahead, shout it out!
Bye for now…
